Terms of service
What you are agreeing to when you use WhenZero, in the plainest words we can manage.
Last updated 24 August 2026.
These terms cover WhenZero — the website at whenzero.app and the planner at whenzero.app/app. They are written to be read. Where a sentence could be read two ways, the reading that favours you is the one we will act on.
What WhenZero is
A planner that projects your money forward day by day: what is spendable before your next paycheck, and when each debt reaches zero. You enter what comes in and what goes out, or import a statement file.
It is not financial advice, and it is not a bank. It does not move money, it is not connected to your accounts, and its projections are arithmetic on figures you supplied — wrong figures in, wrong dates out. Decisions you make with it are yours.
Your figures stay on your device
The planner's contents — balances, income, bills, debts, goals — are stored in your browser on the device you are using. They are not sent to us, we have no copy, and we could not produce yours if you asked or if a court did.
This has a consequence worth being blunt about: your backup file is the only copy that exists. Clearing your browser data, losing the device, or using a different browser loses everything in it. The app can export a file at any time and will remind you to. Keeping that file is your responsibility, because it cannot be ours.
Accounts
An account is an email address and nothing else. There is no password: you ask for a six-digit code, it arrives by email, and it signs you in. We keep the address, whether a subscription is live, the day a trial started, and an identifier from Stripe. We do not keep a name, a password, or anything from the planner.
Keep access to your email address; anyone who can read it can sign in as you. Tell us if you think somebody has.
The trial
21 days of the whole app, with no card. The trial is counted against your email address rather than your browser, so clearing your browser or opening a private window does not start a new one. One trial per person is the intent; we are not going to fingerprint your device to enforce it.
Paying
Plus costs $8.99 USD a month or $69 USD a year. Prices are in US dollars wherever you live, and your bank may add its own conversion charge. Payment is taken by Stripe; we never see or hold your card details.
A subscription renews automatically at the same price until you cancel. If we ever change the price, existing subscriptions keep the old one until we have told you by email and given you a full period's notice, which is time enough to cancel before it applies.
Moving from monthly to yearly happens immediately: the days you have already paid for come off the price, and the exact amount is shown and has to be agreed to before anything is charged. Your year runs from the day you switch.
Cancelling
Cancel from the plan screen at any time, in one place, without asking anybody. You keep Plus until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again. Nothing is deleted.
Deleting your account is on the same screen and is a different thing. It stops the billing immediately rather than at the end of the period — afterwards there is no account left to stop it with — removes everything we hold, and cannot be undone. The rest of that period is not refunded. Cancelling is the one to pick if you only want the payments to stop.
Access is granted by a licence stored on your device and checked without contacting us. Because of that, it cannot be withdrawn remotely: when a subscription ends — whether you cancel, your card stops working, or we refund you — the app can keep opening for up to 30 days after the last day you paid for, until the licence runs out and the app asks again. This is a consequence of not tracking you, and it is never grounds for a further charge.
What we ask of you
- Do not share a licence key or an account with people who have not paid.
- Do not attack the service, or try to reach other people's accounts.
- Do not resell access, or present the app as your own product.
If any of these happen we may end your access. Where the reason is not deliberate abuse, we will refund what you have paid for and not used.
What we do not promise
The app is provided as it is. We cannot promise it will always be reachable, that a projection matches what actually happens, or that a statement file will import cleanly. We do not accept liability for decisions made using it, and where liability cannot be excluded it is limited to what you have paid us in the last twelve months.
Nothing here removes rights you have under the consumer law where you live. Where these terms and that law disagree, that law wins.
Changes, and stopping
If these terms change materially we will email account holders before the change applies. If we ever shut the service down we will give at least thirty days' notice, refund the unused part of any subscription, and leave the export working — your data is on your device and does not depend on us to survive.
